‘Duchess of Cambridge keen to visit New Zealand’ says the country’s PM John Key

New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key has revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge is keen to visit the country.

“I know that the Duchess is very keen to come to New Zealand,” John told reporters. “She hasn’t been before, the Duke’s been on a number of occasions. So hopefully he’ll return some time soon.”

The Prime Minister who spent the weekend with the Royal Family at Balmoral said a visit by new parents William and Kate could be on the cards.

Kate is “keen” to visit New Zealand according to PM John Key.

“Yes we discussed with them, obviously they’d be most welcome to pay a visit. Obviously that’s subject to their diary.”

John also spoke fondly of eight-week old Prince George after meeting him: “He’s a very sweet, bonny little baby.”

Since the birth of Prince George in July, rumours have been swirling that the royal trio will travel to Australia and New Zealand next spring.

Prince William and Kate have undertaken two official tours since their wedding in April 2011. The couple visited Canada just three months after the nuptials, and last year they visited South-East Asia to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Earlier this month, William announced he would be leaving his military role and would be concentrating on supporting his grandmother, The Queen, by undertaking duties at home and abroad.
