William and Kate have always been to close to Princess Anne’s daughter Zara and William van Cutsem is a childhood friend to the Prince.

The new parents have also asked Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton to join the honoured list. Jamie has been an important figure in Prince William and Prince Harry’s life since appointed Private Secretary to the pair in 2005.

Jamie has also helped the Duchess settle in to her new royal life and has often been seen supporting her on royal engagements across the country and abroad.

His son, William, 10, was also one of the two pageboys at their wedding

The other godparents to Prince George include university friend Oliver Baker, the Duke of Westminster’s son Hugh Grosvenor and Julia Samuel, an old friend William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Prince George’s christening will take place at 3pm this afternoon in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace.
