“I thought search and rescue duties were physically and mentally demanding but looking after a three-week-old baby is right up there,” the new father revealed.

The Duke of Cambridge was attending the Anglesey show on a farewell visit to the island. William explained the island had been a “special place” for him and Kate during his time as a pilot at the the RAF Valley.

The royal couple have enjoyed privacy on the island as they settled into married life. Just a week after their wedding ceremony in 2011, which was viewed by two billion people around the world, Kate was spotted shopping at her local supermarket.

As part of the Prince’s trip to the annual Anglesey show, which was his first official outing since becoming a dad, the Duke of Cambridge made a speech to mark his visit.

Speaking to the crowd, he revealed the Duchess of Cambridge and little Prince George would have liked to attend the event.

“She and George would have loved to have been here,” William said. “He’s pretty loud and of course extremely good looking.”

The Prince, who is expected to make an official announcement about his future in the next few weeks, took time to thank the residents of the island for welcoming the royal couple.

“I know that I speak for Catherine when I say I have never in my life known somewhere as beautiful and welcoming as Anglesey.

“I know that both of us will miss it terribly when my search and rescue duty comes to an end next month and we have to move elsewhere.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making my wife and me so welcome when we arrived here, as you do thousands of visitors each year.”

William went on to reveal the couple’s time on the island will be remembered fondly by the new parents.

“This island has been our first home together, and will always be an immensely special place for us both.

“Catherine and I look forward to returning again and again over the coming years with our family.”

During his visit, William was given his own falconry glove and treated to a display by Sophie Large, 11, who is from Wrexham.

“It was very special,” Sophie, daughter of falcon master Terry Large revealed.

The new father of Prince George also met with local dignitaries and farmers. William also viewed a cattle show and spent time talking to the judges and the people showing of their animals.

The Duke was attending the event solo, as Duchess of Cambridge and son Prince George stayed at home. The mother-and-son are believed to be still at Kate’s parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

The couple welcomed their first child on July 22, and announced two days later the mini monarch-to-be would be named Prince George of Cambridge.
