The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrate third wedding anniversary

<![CDATA[Today, the 29th of April, is the third wedding anniversary of Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

On this day in 2011, Prince William married Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey. It was an event watched by nearly 2 billion people worldwide. Since then, the royal couple have spent many happy moments together, gone on three foreign tours, and had one son, Prince George of Cambridge.
Their third wedding anniversary comes just a few days after the family of three returned from their extremely successful tour of Australia and New Zealand. This year’s anniversary is special as it will be the first anniversary that the new parents celebrate after the birth of their son last July.
Tradition says that a married couple should exchange gifts of leather on their third wedding anniversary. However, before embarking on their visit Down Under, Prince William reportedly gave his wife a Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch embedded with a sapphire to match her engagement ring and is worth £3,600. Cartier watches have a special significance to William as his late mother, Princess Diana, also wore a Cartier watch and had one specially engraved for William as a birthday present. Kate was seen wearing her new anniversary present on every day of the tour.
The Duke and Duchess have spent their past two wedding anniversaries apart. Last year, Kate performed a solo engagement in Hampshire while William was on shift at his job as a Search and Rescue pilot for the RAF. This year, it seems that the couple will enjoy a quiet day together with their family.
From everyone here at Royal Central we wish William and Catherine a very happy anniversary!
