Miss Adele Adkins MBE as she will now be known as was given the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to music after releasing two successful albums which have topped the charts around the world.

The 25-year-old singer received the honour at the Palace alongside Christian Horner, the team principal of the Red Bull Formula One team which has won four constructors’ and drivers’ world championships and Paralympians Josie Pearson and Aled Davies, who won gold at last year’s London 2012 Olympics.

The Prince of Wales hosted today’s investiture as The Queen headed off to Sandringham for her traditional Christmas break with the Duke of Edinburgh.

This was also the last investiture of the year, with a new list of those receiving honours set to be released on New Year’s Day. Annually, two lists are released – one being on The Queen’s Official Birthday and the other at New Year’s.

The MBE is the first rank in the Order of the British Empire, the next being OBE, then CBE before a knighthood/damehood.

Adele could be considered for a higher honour later in her career.
