The Prince of Wales arrived in a car outside the main entrance to the Lindo Wing at around 5.30pm UK time. They swiftly made their way into the hospital, though Prince Charles managed to quickly joke to reporters, “have you had a long wait?”

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall made a swift turn to the media pen with a smile and wave before entering the Lindo Wing.

Shortly before they arrived, Michael and Carole Middleton – the other grandparents – arrived to see their new grandson. They were in there for a while before the happy grandparents emerged and Carole said a few brief words to the assembled media.

A press release released earlier today said that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and new baby Cambridge could leave hospital any time after 6pm today – or tomorrow morning.

Names will be announced shortly after release from hospital. It is believed that the names have already been decided on, based on Carole Middleton’s response to a question about names earlier.

It is expected Prince Charles will spend about an hour in the private Lindo Wing ward where his daughter-in-law in staying.

Large crowds began to assemble shortly before His Royal Highness’s arrival and began to increase shortly after he went into the Lindo Wing.
