His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is to join Her Majesty The Queen at Balmoral Castle ‘in mid-August’, an official told Royal Central today.
The Duke is currently convalescing at Sandringham House, The Queen’s private country estate where she goes every Christmas and is widely rumoured to be Her Majesty’s favourite home.
A spokesperson told us that, “it is expected that The Duke will join The Queen at Balmoral in mid-August.”
The Queen leaves for her summer break at Balmoral tomorrow where she’ll spend the entirety of August and part of September there.
Prince Philip is yet to meet the latest edition to the Royal Family, Prince George, and it is rumoured that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George may go up to Balmoral Castle sometime during The Queen’s holiday there because of the privacy and peacefulness the grounds offer.
The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to hospital last month for what was termed ‘exploratory surgery’. He left the London Clinic on 17th June and began his convalescence (which is expected to last two months) at Windsor Castle, before later moving to Sandringham.
The spokeswoman told us that, “His Royal Highness continues to convalesce well and public engagements will be announced in the normal way.”
The Duke is expected to return to light public duties after The Queen’s summer break.
