Royal Family Jeweller’s Shop Raided By Machete-Wielding Robbers

A jeweller to the Royal Family, Eric Smith, has spoken about the horror of a robbery which took place on Sunday involving machete-wielding robbers.

Mr Smith, 63, was subject to a horrendous attack on Sunday when his shop was raided by machete-wielding robbers who made off with £200,000 of Rolex watches.

‘Eric N Smith Jewellers’  have designed pieces for HRH The Princess Royal and even ex US Presidents.

Eric Smith said he was serving customers in the shop in Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, when the raid happened. One of the thieves threatened staff with a blade while the others used hammers to smash the displays of watches.

He explained that the robbers clearly knew what they were looking for as they went straight for the watches.

One witness said: “I was driving when I saw these guys with hoodies and big hammers walk into the store. It was scary.”

Police detective inspector Alan McAlpine said: “The actions of the three men can only be described as brazen. The area would have been busy.

“The men used a blue Peugeot vehicle to flee. It was abandoned in Shawhill Terrace. They then got into a blue Mazda.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who saw either car being driven erratically.”
