Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall have announced they are expecting their first child.
“Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the New Year,” a statement released by Buckingham Palace confirmed.
Zara will welcome her first child with husband Mike Tindall in the new year.
Zara is the only daughter of Princess Anne and granddaughter to The Queen. Zara and Mike married in a 2011, in a ceremony in Scotland, just months after the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
“The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news.
“This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for The Princess Royal,” the statement added.
In recent years, Zara has become a Olympic-winning Equestrian and in the London 2012 won Silver for Great Britain. The daughter of Princess Anne had previously said she was planning to take part in the next games to be held in Rio in 2016.
“She can still compete, it totally depends on horses and whether she feels it’s appropriate,” a spokesman for the couple said shortly after it was confirmed Zara was expecting her first child.
The news comes just days before it is expected the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will welcome their first child.
Following the arrival of baby Cambridge, Zara will drop from 14th to 15th in line to the throne.
