Prince Harry continues HALO Trust charity work

Prince Harry traveled to Angola, Africa on Saturday in association with the HALO Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to the removal of landmines. According to Guy Willoughby, CEO of HALO, the young prince’s itinerary included “visiting a number of demining teams across the region,” and “touring minefields and meeting with beneficiaries of HALO’s work.” The palace released a statement stating Harry was on a “private visit.”

This is hardly the first royal connection to the HALO Trust. Not only did Prince Harry, 28, travel to Mozambique in 2010 but he also visited Washington, D.C in May of 2013 as patron of HALO’s 25th Anniversary Appeal. Some may also remember Diana, Princess of Wales’ efforts while working with HALO in 1997 merely months before her passing. The princess’ work to raise awareness of landmines proved to be influential as two towns she had visited have been completely cleared.

As stated by the corporation’s official website, HALO boasts milestones such as destroying over 1.4 million landmines, destroying over 160,000 assault riffles, and clearing over 9,900 minefields.
