Prince Harry on private visit to Angola

Prince Harry is currently on a “personal and private” visit to Angola, a Kensington Palace official confirmed. The Prince is there as Patron of The HALO Trust’s 25th Anniversary Appeal, but no British media were invited. The Prince is touring minefields and meeting beneficiaries of The HALO Trust’s work.

Prince Harry Prince Harry became a patron of HALO earlier this year after visiting the USA. In Washington DC, Harry was taken to an exhibition of HALO photographs at the Capitol building. His mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, visited Angola in 1997, shortly before she died.

Prince Harry’s trip was not announced beforehand, meaning that there are currently no photographers there. It is expected, however, that a few official photos will be released in due course. A royal official said:

“Prince Harry, as Patron of The HALO Trust’s 25th Anniversary Appeal, is currently on a private visit to Angola to see HALO’s mine clearance and will be touring minefields and meeting beneficiaries of HALO’s work”

As this is the Twitter age, journalist Louise Redvers, who used to be based in Angola, tweeted the rumour before the news was officially confirmed. Members of the Royal Family often visit Africa and are involved in a lot of charities there. Queen Elizabeth II was in Kenya when her father died and The Duke of Cambridge proposed to the Duchess in Kenya. The HALO Trust has been clearing land mines in Africa, Asia and the Middle East since 1988.
