This Monday, instead of returning to Buckingham Palace as usual, Her Majesty is expected to stay on at Windsor Castle where she’ll begin the traditional Easter Court until the end of April.
On 28th March, The Queen will participate in the traditional Royal Maundy service for Maundy Thursday, this year in Oxford, where she’ll symbolically hand out Maundy money to preselected individuals, kick starting the Royal Family’s formal celebration of easter.
In normal weeks, The Queen spends weekdays at Buckingham Palace, before moving to Windsor Castle for the weekend.
During the time The Queen is in Windsor for Easter Court, she hosts occasional ‘dine and sleeps’ events for guests, including politicians and public figures.
It is widely regarded that Windsor Castle is The Queen’s favourite home, Her Majesty disliking Buckingham Palace for its position at the centre of London. Windsor Castle acts as Her Majesty’s weekend home.
The Queen is also in residence for a week in June, when she attends the service of the Order of the Garter and the Royal Ascot race meeting.
